Japanese Tattoos

I’m proud to announce the release of my upcoming book “Japanese Tattoos: History * Culture * Design” from Tuttle Publishing. Over twelve years have passed since I came to Osaka, Japan and entered into a full time Japanese tattooing apprenticeship, and eventually formed my own studio. This book is the culmination of more than a decade of effort spent exploring the world of Japan’s tattooing tradition. Working together with my co-author Brian Ashcraft, we put together a book that covers Japan’s long, proud, and sometimes sordid history of tattooing, its cultural symbols and motifs, as well as the country’s changing attitudes and perception of this ever evolving art form.
